Natural Mineral Makeup
It was an infomercial that first introduced me to mineral makeup. I couldn't wait to get my order in the mail - I was so excited to try minerals for the first time! Imagine my surprise when I began to break out and experienced intense itching and burning after using this "all-natural" product. It didn't make any sense to me, why was this happening? I started my research and learned that the cause of my irritation was the ingredient Bismuth Oxychloride.
I thought this ingredient was natural?
Now-a-days, all you need to do is a quick Google search to learn that Bismuth Oxychloride is a known skin-irritant and inexpensive filler used by many of the popular retail brands of mineral makeup. Back in 2005, there wasn't as much information available about the ingredient on the internet, but I continued my research and learned:
NOTHING SHOULD EVER BE FORCED INTO YOUR PORES
Why do companies use it?
Simple: it's a very inexpensive filler.
Ten years ago there were very few companies that weren't using Bismuth Oxychloride in their mineral foundations, so I decided to learn how to make my own. I started making extra for gifts for friends and family and pretty soon, everyone was telling me to open a website. That is how Rachel Hope Cosmetics was born.
So although using a product containing Busmuth Oxychloride was a very uncomfortable experience, it is essentially the reason my business exists today.
Our cosmeitcs are also 100% cruelty-free and vegan. Our products do not contain dyes or parabens.
